Apple iCloud & MDM Services

Apple iCloud lock (Activation Lock) and MDM (Mobile Device Management) are the two most common Apple device locks that prevent normal use of iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs.

iCloud Activation Lock

Activation Lock is Apple's anti-theft feature tied to Find My iPhone:

  • When Find My is enabled, the device's serial/IMEI is registered to the Apple ID on Apple's servers
  • After factory reset (DFU restore, erase), the device demands the original Apple ID and password before it can be set up
  • This lock cannot be bypassed by reflashing firmware — it's enforced at the hardware/server level
  • Affected devices: iPhone 5s and later, iPad Air and later, Apple Watch Series 0+, Mac with T2/M1/M2+ chip

Apple MDM (DEP/ABM)

Apple Device Enrollment Program (DEP) / Apple Business Manager (ABM) is enterprise device management:

  • Organizations register device serial numbers with Apple's DEP/ABM program
  • When the device connects to internet during setup, it contacts Apple's servers and auto-enrolls in the organization's MDM
  • MDM profile can: restrict settings, install/remove apps, enforce passcodes, remotely lock/wipe, prevent MDM profile removal
  • Unlike iCloud lock, MDM is tied to the device's serial number in Apple's activation servers — survives DFU restore

How to Order Apple iCloud/MDM Removal: Step-by-Step

  1. Identify the lock type on the device:
    • iCloud Activation Lock: After reset, the device shows "This iPhone/iPad is locked to an Apple ID"
    • MDM Profile: The device shows "Remote Management — this device is supervised and managed by [organization]"
    • Find My iPhone: Device is reported lost or has Find My enabled by previous owner
  2. Find the IMEI or Serial Number:
    • On iCloud lock screen: tap the (i) info icon to see IMEI
    • Check the SIM tray for IMEI engraving
    • For iPad (WiFi only): use Serial Number instead of IMEI
  3. Select the correct service on Code-GSM — match the lock type, device model, and clean/lost status
  4. Submit the IMEI/Serial Number
  5. Wait for processing: iCloud services can take 1-7 business days depending on the service

iCloud Check: Before Ordering

  • Clean vs Lost: "Clean" = Find My active but device NOT reported lost/stolen. "Lost/Erased" = device is in Lost Mode or reported stolen. Different services handle each case
  • FMI Status: Find My iPhone ON = iCloud locked. FMI OFF = no iCloud lock (different issue, perhaps MDM)
