Qualcomm Specialization — How It Works

Hydra Tool communicates with Qualcomm devices through two primary low-level interfaces:

EDL Mode (Emergency Download Mode — 9008)

Qualcomm devices have a hard-coded Boot ROM (PBL — Primary Boot Loader) that activates when the secondary bootloader is missing or corrupted, or when triggered via a specific key combination or test point. In EDL mode:

Device appears as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 in Windows Device Manager
Communication uses the Sahara/Firehose protocol: first the PC sends a signed programmer (firehose loader), then issues XML commands to read/write/erase any partition on the device storage
Hydra Tool includes a large database of signed firehose loaders for different Qualcomm SoCs — these are digitally signed by the device manufacturer and are required because Qualcomm's Secure Boot rejects unsigned code
Operations possible: full flash, selective partition write, frp partition erase, IMEI partition (modemst1/2) read/write, EFS backup/restore, userdata wipe, unlock data write

Diag Mode (9006/900E)

When ADB is accessible or the device boots into a diagnostic state, it exposes a Qualcomm Diagnostic port (DIAG). Through this interface:

Device appears as Qualcomm USB Composite Device with DM (Diagnostic Monitor) port
NV item read/write: Direct access to Non-Volatile (NV) items stored in the EFS/modem partition — NV items control IMEI, network lock, carrier settings, RF calibration, and security flags
SPC unlock: Read or reset the 6-digit Service Programming Code that protects NV items on carrier-locked devices
Operations possible: IMEI repair (NV item 550/551), network unlock (NV item 65), FRP status read, carrier subsidy lock state read/write
