What is an iCloud Bypass?

An iCloud Bypass is a technical process that allows an iOS device — such as an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch — to be used again when it is stuck on the Activation Lock screen and the original Apple ID credentials are no longer available.

When a device is locked, it displays a screen asking for an Apple ID and password before it can be set up. Without those credentials, the device cannot be used in any way. An iCloud bypass provides a method to work around this restriction so the device can be partially or fully functional again.

Two Main Types of iCloud Bypass

Direct Bypass (Setup.app Removal): The Setup Assistant application is deleted or renamed from the device root filesystem via SSH. Without Setup.app, the device has no way to display the activation screen and boots directly to the home screen. This method works on older iOS versions and specific device models that support the checkm8 exploit.
Indirect Bypass (Activation Record Injection): The device is tricked into believing it has valid activation records. This is done by patching system binaries or by injecting previously saved activation data back into the filesystem. The device passes the activation screen without actually contacting Apple's activation server.

Which Devices Are Compatible?

iCloud bypass methods rely heavily on the checkm8 bootrom exploit, which is a hardware-level vulnerability that cannot be patched by Apple via software updates. This exploit is available on devices from iPhone 4 up to iPhone X (A4 through A11 chips). Devices with A12 chips and newer (iPhone XS and later) are not compatible with checkm8-based bypass methods.
